Please review the following sport-specific instructions in advance. At the end of each session description, you can find the language of instruction. Please also note the following:
  • Check which club is organizing the session! Some sessions are offered by more than one club.
  • Check the location of each activity and allow enough time to move between locations.
  • The following activities require a separate participation fee, payable on-site when you arrive for the session:

Biitsiareena OBV-Oy: Practice basic beach volleyball skills and play games. Bring your own towel, water bottle, and comfortable sportswear. No shoes are worn on the beach courts. (FIN & ENG)
City Biljard: For each starting session, 5 pool tables and 5 snooker tables are reserved. The activity is free, and equipment is available to borrow on-site. (FIN & ENG)
CrossFit Routa: In the CrossFit trial session, you will get to explore the exciting world of CrossFit! The session includes a short introduction to the sport, warm-up, learning movements and techniques, and a MetCon, which is a typical CrossFit workout. Bring any indoor sportswear, training shoes, a water bottle, and possibly a sweat towel. (FIN & ENG)
Disquitos ry: Introduction to Ultimate as a sport, covering the basics and playing Ultimate. (FIN & ENG)
Easymove Linnanmaa: Participants must arrive at the Easymove lobby 10 minutes before the class starts, from where they will be let into the gym. Equipment: indoor workout clothes, indoor shoes, and a water bottle.
  • Fitness workout class description: A safe and effective full-body workout combining strength, mobility, and body control. Exercises are performed at your own pace, with options for different levels – suitable for both beginners and more experienced participants. The class begins with a warm-up, continues with strength exercises, and ends with light stretches. Energetic music plays in the background, and the encouraging instructor ensures the workout is both motivating and effective. (FIN)
  • Kettlebell class description: Kettlebell training is an efficient and versatile form of strength training. The exercises are done with kettlebells of different weights, chosen according to your fitness level. Kettlebell training works the whole body and raises your heart rate. The instructor will guide you in the correct technique, so no previous kettlebell experience is required. (FIN & ENG)

Ju-Jutsu Oulu ry: (FIN & ENG)
  • In the Hokutoryu Ju-Jutsu class – a modern self-defense and martial art – you will get to learn the basics. During the class, you will practice partner drills such as escaping from different holds, as well as basic striking and kicking techniques. Recommended clothing: regular indoor sportswear, e.g., a t-shirt and sweatpants/shorts. Training is barefoot on tatami mats, so no indoor shoes or slippers are used. The trial class takes place at the same time as the club’s general beginners’ course session, so there will be about ten other participants training as well. The beginners’ course starts the week before SporttiAppro, so they are also newcomers to the sport.
  • In the Koden Enshin Ryu Kenjutsu trial class, you will be introduced to the traditional Japanese art of swordsmanship. The class includes drawing and sheathing the sword, striking from different positions, and practicing techniques in pairs. Recommended clothing: regular indoor sportswear, e.g., a t-shirt and sweatpants/shorts. Training is barefoot on tatami mats, so no indoor shoes or slippers are used. A wooden practice sword and belt are provided by the club. No sharp swords are used during training. The trial class is held at the same time as the club’s general kenjutsu practice session, but SporttiAppro participants will be instructed as a separate group during the class.

Northern Lights ry (American football): Welcome to try out American football! In this trial class, you will get a versatile introduction to the sport without contact or the need for protective gear such as a helmet or shoulder pads. The session includes sport-specific movement, ball-handling, and plenty of fun. Lots of action, but not too many risks! The class is open to both men and women. (FIN & ENG)
Northern Lights ry (Cheerleading): (FIN & ENG)
  • Come and train cheerleading with the adult beginners’ team Graniitit! Cheerleading is a fast-paced and spectacular team sport focusing on group stunts and floor acrobatics. In this class, you will get to safely and guidedly try the basics of group lifts as well as acrobatics according to your own level. The cheerful and energetic atmosphere is also an important part of the training! ​What to bring: sportswear, indoor shoes, and a water bottle. Long hair should be tied back, and jewelry left in your bag. No registration required – just show up!
  • Come and train cheer dance with the adult beginners’ team Karneolit! Cheer dance is a dynamic and impressive team sport focusing on dance jumps, dance acrobatics, pirouettes, and visually striking group formations. In this class, you will get to try the basics of the sport together with the team. Of course, the cheerful and lively atmosphere will also be there! What to bring: sportswear and a water bottle. Long hair should be tied back. Training is done in socks. No registration required – just show up!
OLO Running Group: Joint run + mobility exercises at the Heinäpää fitness stairs.
Oulu Rugby Club: Bring a water bottle, sportswear, and running shoes (or cleats). Clothes may get a little dirty. (FIN & ENG)
Oulun Jousimiehet ry (Archery Club): Introductory archery session where you get to try shooting and go through shooting technique. (FIN & ENG) Participation fee: €10 (includes instruction and equipment).
Oulun Karateseura (Karate Club): The classes introduce the basic techniques of karate. Equipment: indoor sportswear and a water bottle. Training is barefoot.
The club does not insure participants against accidents or injuries. However, the risk is minimal as the techniques are practiced safely. (FIN & ENG)
Oulun Keilailutalo Oy (Bowling Hall): Free bowling for one hour, 4 people per lane. (FIN & ENG)
Oulun Kickboxing ry: Kickboxing is a fast-paced sport suitable for all healthy individuals, regardless of age or gender. Most participants take up the sport because it is a very effective form of exercise. Kickboxing is excellent for improving endurance, strength, and overall fitness – especially for relieving shoulder tension!
Fitness kickboxing differs from regular kickboxing in that there is no contact with an opponent. Instead, the “opponent” is a punching bag or pads held by a partner. No protective gear is needed; suitable equipment includes light indoor sportswear (without shoes), a towel, and a water bottle. (FIN & ENG)
Oulun Kiipeilykeskus (Climbing Center): In this trial climbing class, you will get to try both bouldering and auto-belay walls. The class includes climbing shoes, harness rental, and instruction. No prior experience required.

Oulun Miekkailuseura (Fencing Club): (FIN & ENG)
  • Viking Swordfighting: Viking swordfighting combines historical weapon skills, reenactment, and theater. Since no Viking-age fencing manuals exist, the techniques are adapted from later fencing guides, both historical and modern. In this trial class, you will learn the basic techniques and characteristic movements of the sport. Equipment: indoor sportswear, indoor shoes, and a water bottle.
  • HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts): HEMA is a martial art based on historical European fencing and combat manuals. Oulun Miekkailuseura has been practicing HEMA since 2009, focusing on both the one-handed sidesword and the two-handed longsword. In this trial class, you will learn the basics of techniques and movements used in HEMA. Equipment: indoor sportswear, indoor shoes, and a water bottle. For extra comfort, you may also bring thicker gloves (e.g., leather or work gloves).
  • Sport Fencing: Sport fencing is practiced with three different weapons: épée, foil, and sabre. Each weapon has its own rules and style, but the fun and excitement are always present! At Oulun Miekkailuseura, training focuses on foil and épée, both thrusting weapons. In the trial class, you will practice fundamental motor skills, fencing movements, as well as attacking and defending. Equipment: indoor sportswear with long pants, indoor shoes, and a water bottle.
  • Para Fencing: Para fencing (formerly known as wheelchair fencing) is the only Paralympic combat sport open to both disabled and non-disabled athletes. The competitors’ chairs are set at an adjustable distance depending on reach. The fun of the sport is that you cannot escape your opponent—you must resolve the duel with your weapon, within the limits of reach allowed by your chair! In this trial class, you will practice the basic techniques of para fencing, including attacking and defending. Equipment: indoor sportswear and a water bottle.
  • Boffer Fencing (Foam Swordfighting): Boffer fencing is a unique Finnish combat sport with simple rules, making it easy to learn. Thanks to the lightweight weapons, the sport is fast-paced. In this trial class, you will quickly go through the rules and basics of boffer fencing before joining a large group battle known as “ryhmämättö”! Training boffers will be provided, so you only need to bring indoor sportswear, indoor shoes, and a water bottle.
Oulun Pyrintö ry: Functional training (Functional Training / Functional Fitness) develops mobility, coordination, strength, speed, and endurance in a versatile way. The exercises are based on natural movement patterns, improving overall fitness and everyday functionality. The sport is suitable for all fitness and skill levels, and workouts can be adjusted individually. People of different levels can train together, creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.

Oulun Shotokan Karate-do: Introduction to the basics of Shotokan karate, including punches, blocks, and possibly kicks. Wear flexible clothes, e.g., sweatpants. Training is done barefoot.
Oulun Squash Club: Come and try the fast-paced and intensive racket sport of squash!
The session covers the basics – racket handling, basic shots, and court movement – in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. More experienced players can also receive guidance on technique, movement, and tactics.
Duration: 60 min
Suitable for: Beginners and those who have tried squash before
What to bring: Indoor sportswear and shoes. Rackets and balls are provided on-site. Bring a water bottle!
Directions: Enter through the main entrance, walk through the locker rooms, and follow the long corridor next to the tennis courts. At the end of the corridor, go through the door, and the squash courts are on the right. Meeting point is near the squash courts – please arrive on time. If anything is unclear, further directions are available at the Nallisport front desk. (FIN & ENG)
Oulun Tai Shin Mun ry: (FIN & ENG)
  • Monkey Kung Fu: A glimpse into the tradition of Eastern martial arts. The class focuses on the basics of Monkey Kung Fu. Contact with other participants is included. Training is done barefoot.
  • ChiKung: A traditional Eastern form of exercise combining breathing and movement. Training is done barefoot. No contact.
Oulun Verkkopalloseura Ry: During the padel session, games are played with rotating pairs according to the official rules of padel. If needed, the rules and stroke techniques will be reviewed. Students don’t need prior experience. Games are arranged so that more experienced players get to play with each other, and beginners can play together. The instructor provides guidance during the first part of the session, while the last 30 minutes are free play. Participation fee: €6, to be paid at the Nallisport front desk before the session (includes court and racket rental). Pelibunkkeri: Exciting and fun laser tag on a multi-level arena. Game rounds start every hour and half past. Each game lasts 20 minutes. Reserving your spot in advance ensures entry. Please arrive 15 minutes before the game begins. (FIN & ENG) 
Pohjois-Suomen kädenvääntö (arm wrestling): Warm-up, basic techniques, possible trial matches, and arm-wrestling demonstrations. Bring a water bottle and indoor shoes.
Poropadel: Bring indoor sports shoes. Rackets and balls are provided, as well as guidance. Welcome to try padel! (FIN & ENG)
Reenis: Wear indoor sports clothing and socks. If you want to lock your belongings in a locker, bring your own padlock. Padlocks are also available for rent at €1. The most important rules will be explained on-site. By participating, you agree to follow Reenis’ rules and activity-specific instructions.

  • Lindy Hop: A fun and energetic swing dance from 1930s Harlem, danced with a partner. Its movement style is playful and relaxed. In this dance, everyone can express their own movement and style.
  • Solo Jazz: Based on African American jazz and swing dances from the 1920s–40s in the U.S. This energetic and expressive dance connects you to swing music rhythms without a partner. It develops rhythm, body control, and self-expression – and is suitable for everyone, regardless of background.
    Bring indoor shoes (or dance in socks), a water bottle, and a cheerful attitude!
Taekwon-Do Academy: Introduction to the Korean martial art and self-defense sport Taekwon-Do through kicking and technical exercises. The session is held together with both beginners who started this autumn and more experienced practitioners. An instructor in a blue-and-white tracksuit will be welcoming participants in the lobby on the 2nd floor of staircase A, Äimäkuja 6. What to bring: indoor sportswear, water bottle, and small towel.   • Hammock Tricks: A fun way to build strength and flexibility using a hanging fabric loop. You’ll learn easy tricks – no prior experience needed. Wear long pants and a fitted shirt. No jewelry or watches allowed.
  • Pole Dance: Perfect for first-timers, beginners, or those returning to the sport. You’ll learn the basics of pole dance such as spins, sits, and stands. A great way to develop strength, flexibility, and balance while having fun! Bring shorts, a small towel/microfiber cloth, and a water bottle. You can wear leggings or sweatpants over your shorts during the warm-up.
  • Chair Dance: Immerse yourself in a smooth and playful dance routine with a chair. You may also try chair tricks with the instructor’s assistance if you wish. Feel free to wear your favorite heels. Open level.
  • Aerial Acrobatics: In this beginner-friendly class you’ll learn the basics and simple tricks of aerial silks, hammock, and aerial hoop. Wear clothes that cover armpits and knees. No hanging jewelry, watches, rings, or bracelets. Long hair must be tied up.
  • Aerial Yoga: Aerial yoga combines elements of traditional yoga, Pilates, and aerial acrobatics. The fabric supports the body, easing joint strain and making the practice gentle and safe. Suitable for everyone. Please inform the instructor of any health-related restrictions. Wear a fitted shirt covering the armpits and pants covering the knees without zippers. No jewelry. Atmospheric lighting is used – let the instructor know if you have light sensitivity so disturbing lights can be turned off.
Dance Center Citydance: (FIN & ENG)
  • Reggaeton: A captivating and rhythmic dance style combining elements of Latin and street dance. The focus is on core isolations, polyrhythms, and strongly accented movements. The class includes a warm-up, a few technical exercises, and choreography practice, tailored to the group’s level.
  • Commercial Dance: Step straight into the world of music videos and big stage performances! This is primarily a choreography-based class, starting with a quick warm-up before diving into dynamic routines.
Twerk & Dance Oulu: You can join any class in any dance-appropriate outfit. Sensual Twerk may include some floorwork, so knee protection (knee pads or long pants) is recommended.

  • Yin Yoga: A slow-paced, restorative yoga class with long-held poses. Calms the body and mind, relieves stress, increases mindfulness, and improves flexibility.   • Volleyball (beginners): For participants with no background in volleyball. Instructor teaches basic skills and rules. (Oulu Normaalikoulu 7–9)

Velvet Dance Company:
  • Show Dance: A fusion of jazz, contemporary, and other dance styles. The class begins with a thorough warm-up, followed by typical show dance technique exercises, and ends with learning a dance combination in the style of show dance.
  • Commercial Dance: Just like the name suggests – commercial dance is the style you see in music videos and on stage with artists. The class includes warm-up, technique, and performance practice, and culminates in a dynamic choreography full of attitude.

Wizards of Oulu Rugby Club ry: Introducing rugby – what is it, and how is it played? Learn the basic skills needed for the game and finish with a fun game of touch/tag rugby. Instruction mainly in English, with Finnish translation available if needed. Bring a water bottle and trainers or football boots! (ENG)
Yasmine ry: Welcome to an oriental dance (belly dance) trial class! We will learn basic movements of belly dance and combine them into an energetic choreography. Belly dance focuses on precise core and hip work, isolation of movements, and of course, the joy of dance. Wear comfortable clothes to move in and bring a water bottle. You can dance in socks or dance shoes. No prior dance experience needed, but more advanced dancers will also be given extra challenges. Access to the studio is through the courtyard. Street parking available nearby.
